We all have them - mental blind spots that quietly shape how we see the world. They’re not flaws in our eyesight, but in our perception. And they can keep us from recognising the opportunities, support, and goodness that surround us every day.
In clinical terms, a blind spot is a small area in our visual field where sight is blocked. But psychologically, it’s something more subtle: a belief, assumption, or expectation that filters out what doesn’t fit. We stop seeing what’s actually there - and instead, see only what we’ve been conditioned to expect.
If you believe the world is hostile or unfriendly, your mind will scan for proof - and find it. But if you believe people are mostly kind, and life is full of possibility, you’ll notice that too. Our beliefs shape our reality, not because they change the facts, but because they change what we’re able to see.
Most of these beliefs were formed early, shaped by our upbringing and environment. But as adults, we have the power to pause, reflect, and rewire. We can become aware of our conditioning. We can challenge the blind spots that keep us stuck. And we can choose beliefs that help us grow.
This shift doesn’t require perfection - just intention. Each time we affirm a goal, embrace a new perspective, or act with curiosity instead of fear, we chip away at those blind spots. We become more open, more aware, and more capable of seeing life as it truly is.
And when we commit to this practice daily, we become skilled at spotting - and busting - our own blind spots. That’s when real growth begins.
